Making omelettes a wee bit more special

Note that special = more time.

One thing about omelettes is that you can make it plain, with some veggies, cheese and god knows what else and it still tastes good (if you like eggs that is). And between you and me, adding cheese really makes it amazing! Sounds weird, but i had no regrets.

So what do you need? At least 2 eggs. You could use one egg too because this omelette can be a little hard to eat by yourself . . . and eating more than 2 eggs a day is not considered healthy (I don't know why... people just keep saying it.). So, if you're planning to use more than 2 eggs, make sure you're sharing it! :)

Sharing makes things taste better after all.

Now, I'm not really a big fan of carrots, but here's a list of possible 'things' you can put in there without regretting it!

Grated carrots! (otherwise it'd just be impossible to eat... and you only need half a carrot, unless it's really small.)
Diced capsicum! (smaller the cubes, the better, since it adds texture)
Onions (I'm not a big fan of it, but when diced and fried off really well, it adds good flavor)
Tomatoes! (Preferably ripe, and dice it. Unless you're fond of really juicy tomatoes, in which case - your choice. Seriously though. Please dice it!)
Salt (please be careful. too much is gross, too little can be fixed!)
Pepper (depends on how fond you are of pepper)
Oregano (Yes. please. If you have it in tiny packets, use one otherwise a half teaspoon should do)
Chilli flakes (Like i said for pepper, depends on how spicy you like things!)
Mushrooms (They make everything taste better!)
Coriander (A small fist full is perfect, finely chopped. FINELY! Remember, a little too much and the flavor would be lost)
Spinach (Also great, should be shredded, and too much not good.)
Shredded/diced meat (ham, bacon, sausages and marinated chicken are some of the easiest to chop/dice and fry off with your veggies while adding more flavor! Note that for 2 eggs either 1 slice of ham/bacon or 1 sausage or 1/4 of a chicken breast is enough. The egg is the hero here!)

Cheese - Any cheese is great, you can mix a few different cheeses if you have such variety. But make sure it's grated!

And any other vegetable that you like i guess. Also note that among the meats I've not mentioned things like beef or mutton because it's a little hard to cook it for something that gets cooked so quickly. Trust me, unless you've fully cooked these meats for some other dish before, DO NOT add it to the omelette.

The list of ingredients admittedly is a little long and adding all of them would require at least a 4 or 5 egg omelette for it to be perfectly balanced. So, if you are putting all these into a one  or two egg omelette, ensure that the quantity of the added veggies and meat is less.

I hope you're ready, because now comes the exciting part, after all the chopping and dicing and what not!

In a bowl - a medium sized bowl or a large sized bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them. If you don't have a whisk, you can use a fork and if there's no fork, a spoon will do. To this add a quarter teaspoonful of salt, pepper to taste and the oregano and chilli flakes. Also add a pinch of turmeric. Whisk or beat it till all the spices have mixed and the mixture is yellow. Keep this aside for now.

Put a pan on and wait for it to heat up a little. For those of you who don't know how to check that, reduce the flame a bit and keep your hand facing palm down above the pan. If you can feel some warmth, it means the pan is heating up. DO NOT TOUCH THE PAN. Not only is it dangerous, its also not hygienic kids!

Now, pour a tablespoonful of oil onto the pan. Spread the oil around the pan and you'll know the oil is heated when it gathers in the center of the pan.

Add your diced onions. For a single egg omelette, about 20 gms should do, increase the quantity only a little as you increase the number of eggs. Once the onions take on a nice golden color, add the tomatoes. Fry them off till they start sweating (or releasing their juices, whichever you will). You can add a pinch of salt and some seasoning if you desire (pepper, chilli powder/paprika etc).

Then add the mushrooms, and ensure they sweat. Whatever mushrooms you chop, will shrivel and shrink a little and it is important that they do, because otherwise, they'll be raw. Raw is not good. The more mushroom you have the better, because what looks like a lot after being cooked is about half the quantity you had.

Now after this, add the meat (if you are adding it, otherwise skip this para). If you're adding ham, you can go to the next para. If you're using bacon, ensure that it becomes a little brown and crisp. Either one will do. If you're adding sausages, make sure you spear them with a fork. If they're cooked, the fork will slide right it without fighting back. If it's not cooked, the fork will be hard to push in. If you're adding chicken, whether diced or shredded, ensure that the outside turns a golden brown and if you're unsure whether the inside is cooked, slice a piece. The inside SHOULD NOT be PINK. It should be white.

Now you can add the capsicum. Note that capsicum is kind of safe to eat raw, so you need to give it at least 3 - 4 minutes on the pan at medium flame. That should be enough to cook it.

Now you can add half of the spinach you chopped, along with the grated carrot. Fry it off, till the spinach wilts. After this, add the last of the spinach and the coriander. Give it a few stirs and then turn off the heat.

Beat the egg mixture once more briefly and overturn all the fried off veggies and things into the egg mixture and beat it once more. Now, heat up the pan again and add another tablespoonful of oil. Once hot, pour the egg mixture over it.

Turn the heat all the way down and sprinkle your grated cheese all over the omelette. Now cover the pan and give it a minute or two. Check if the omelette is cooked. If you're unsure with all the cheese on it, shake the pan slightly. If the cheese 'slides' on top of the omelette, it's uncooked.

Once cooked, take the omelette off the pan and serve hot! It can be eaten with roti, parantha (any other such variation), rice and bread. Or just by itself too. This omelette is not just nutritious, it's also delicious! :)

Note that if you want the omelette to be kind of sweet and happen to be fond of carrots, just increase the quantity of the grated carrots instead of adding sugar :)

RWBY Theories: Ren's next.

Everyone remember how Pyrrha died? How could anyone forget?

So, there are a lot of theories going around about who' going to die next and whether anyone from team RWBY is in danger of dying 'or something'.

And specifically, a theory that says the whole of team JNPR was made to die. I'm not sure I like that idea but Pyrrha, everyone's hopes for everything died, so did super robot Penny.

I still honestly go with 'Penny was the innocence of the RWBY universe and her death meant that RWBY was no longer going to be that happy go lucky series anymore'

Before I get onto why Ren's next, let's look at the things that have finally been explained to us - in terms of semblences.

Yang's semblance (called 'second wind' in the game) allows her to dish out twice the damage she's been dealt onto her opponent or... more accurately "Your semblence is basically a temper tantrum Yang".

Yay. Yang also seems to be finally getting some upgrades so that she'll stop getting her ass handed to her (if you don't know what i'm talking about, look back on season 2 and 3). In terms of character development, she's gonna simmer down.

Qrow. My semblance 'is bad luck'. The hell kind of semblance is that you might ask, but if you do look around in any scenes where Qrow is, something or the other happens to those who interact with him - bad things such as getting a hit that could have been avoided, being careless, accidentally dropping a glass (hats off to whoever got this reference).

Qrow's semblance seems to pass off misfortune onto someone else or rather if Yang can return her opponents hits twice as hard, Qrow can 'return the favor twofold without having done anything'.

Having said that however, what does this have to do with Ren?

Maybe I'm reading too much into things... but. Pyrrha died after we found out about her hopes and dreams and in a sense 'who she was and what drove her as a human being'. It was almost immediately after this, that she died.

Ren's next. IF and this is a big IF and maybe even reading waaaaaaaaaaay too much into things, Ren's past has been revealed. We now know who Ren was in the past and maybe we'll learn a little bit more before we kind of 'feel' for Ren. And then he'll die. And by a 'little more' I mean his semblance.

Currently, that is, as of season 4 episode 10, we finally learn where Ren lived and why he and Nora know each other so well as well as why Nora is so attached to Ren. I honestly think someone hates couples here cause in episode 10 there were a lot of hints of their 'dependance' on one another. But I still think it'll be Ren first.

What does this have to do with Qrow? Remember Qrow was following RNJR? Remember Qrow was having a few drinks? I have a bad feeling that Qrow was the cause of the downfall of that poor little town. The reason I say that is because he's currently about to die. If his semblance is bad luck and at the moment it isn't applying to Ruby or Jaune... then it has to manifest itself onto "SOMETHING"

I think Ren will be the eventual target and with Ren's death, Qrow will probably return to the living. Somehow. But like I said, i feel like the theory stretches too far. Now, I have another theory as to why Qrow's bad luck hasn't affected Ruby and Jaune in all the instances 'yet'.

What if Jaune's semblance had to do with 'protection' or shielding or something. In which case, even if Qrow's semblance tried to act on them, maybe it couldn't and so the target's became all those who were last in contact with Qrow and outside Jaune's influence.

Critical Reviews: Why RWBY's opening songs are important.

I'm sure you all know how most anime's opening songs give you a hint as to what it's going to be about, correct?

What if I said that all the opening songs of RWBY kind of hinted to where the series itself was going as well as what was going to happen. Literally. So, let's start with season 1.

The song was "This will be the day" and it goes like this.

They see you as small and helpless,
They see you as just a child,
Surprised when they find,
That a warrior will soon run wild!

Prepare for your greatest moments,
Prepare for your finest hour,
The dream that you've always dreamed
is suddenly about to flower

We are lightning,
Straying from the thunder,
Miracles of ancient wonder!

This'll be the day we've waited for,
This'll be the day we open up the doors,
I don't wanna hear your absolution,
Hope you're ready for a revolution,

Welcome to a world of new solutions,
Welcome to a world of bloody evolution

In time, your heart will open minds,
A story will be told,
and victory is in a simple soul!

Your world needs a great defender,
Your worlds in the way of harm,
You want a romantic life,
A fairytale that's full of charm

Beware that the light is fading,
Beware as the dark returns!
This world's unforgiving,
even brilliant lights will cease to burn

Legends scatter,
Day and night will sever
Hope and peace are lost forever!

This'll be the day we've waited for,
This'll be the day we open up the doors,
I don't wanna hear your absolution,
Hope you're ready for a revolution.

Welcome to a world of new solutions,
Welcome to a world of bloody evolution
in time, your heart will open minds,
a story will be told,
and victory is in a simple soul!

So, in the song, you listen to everything before 'Your world needs a great defender'.

Now, 'they see as small and helpless' is a reference to the entirety of team RWBY. More specifically Ruby though because she's younger than everybody and isn't half as formidable as Prryha Nicos or at least, so it would seem, looking back on it from all the way from season 3.

The next part of the song, 'prepare for your greatest moments', upto 'and victory is in a simple soul' in totality, seem to be a reference to Ruby. After all, at the end of season 3, Ruby kind of runs off with the remainder of team JNPR. Now, the rest of the song, is what is really important.

'Your world needs a great defender'. Since we never listened to this in the opening song, it seemed like the anime was a Shonen like one, but with a female protagonist instead. however, this seems to be just the opposite.

This line was a reference to all the hunters and huntresses. Not only does it refer to the Grimm, it refers to all the villains in RWBY. Cinder in particular, because so far she has become the most dangerous. Also, Cinder is showcased in shadows during the song. A lot of what we see in the song is also in reference to what we will be seeing or can expect.

Again, the line 'you want some romantic life, a fairytale that's full of charm'. Today, we know that all our characters are based off of some fairy tale or the other. It's almost like Rooster teeth was referring to the actual fairy tales and telling us that from our character's point of view, they would love those stories to be real. My god rooster teeth. Why would you even?!

But as we find out in season 3, Prryha Nicos dies. Why is this important? Prryha was supposed to be Achilles, which is why before she died, an arrow hit her ankle. Which means, any fairytale character that died in the original fairytale, is destined for death - team JNPR might be wiped out over the next few seasons.

Then, 'beware that the light is fading', upto 'even brilliant lights will cease to burn' is a reference to everyone in general.

One brilliant light would be Yang i think. At the end of season 3, yang is nothing like the person we knew up till then - she was always bright, cheery, supportive, looking out for her sister and so on. Another brilliant light would be Penny. She represents almost all that is pure in the RWBY universe because in some ways she's kind of naive and despite knowing a lot about the scenario in season 2 up till season 3, she's never ever had a single dark or sarcastic dialogue. She was always full of smiles.

Legends scatter. I know of only one team that was comprised of legends, team JNPR and Prryha was the first to die. I believe Jaune will be the last to die or the second to die because his aura has kind of shown the most potential so far without really having revealed anything. But i think we all know that Jaune will probably go out with a bang, considering Jaune Ark the original was burned at the stake.

'Day and night will sever', 'Hope and peace are lost forever'. One character that had walked both paths that we knew of were Blake and in a sense Jaune. Jaune teams up with Ruby (if Ruby is say, day), while Blake (and Blake is the night) runs off, into the shadows presumably, to be a vigilante that strikes in the dark kind of sort of person(perhaps).

The second line is far more important. Hope and peace lost forever. Why? Well, Yang lost her arm, Penny is dead, Prryha is dead. Granted, Penny was kind of sort of a side character, but we had grown to love her. Ruby has lost 2 friends and her sister in a sense. Yet, in Ruby, hope stills remains - for a better tomorrow, for a safer tomorrow. But peace so far has been lost.

They are no longer in their school setting where there was protection in some sense. A war of sorts has broken out and no one really knows what to expect. But i will touch up on this later. If Ruby dies as well and not literally dies - maybe even shrivels up inside after the deaths of the rest of team JNPR, hope too in a sense would be lost. Yang seems unable to pick up her own pieces. Blake i believe is trying to grow stronger for her confrontation (final) with Adam and Weiss is kind of stuck with the role of Heiress hanging over her head. Ozpin is dead. Amber is dead. We have 3 other maidens left in potential danger, unless of course, they too end up facing what Amber faced.

I believe that covers all the hope. Now, let me touch up on the most important line in the song that i never paid attention to, till season 3. That is, 'Welcome to a world of bloody evolution'.

Huh. I never really thought about till Yang, Prryha and Penny. And i NEVER thought about it because the whole series was kind of comedic and not really dark and everything so . . .

That generally covers the first season and its implication for the rest of the seasons. So, season two. The opening song is 'Time to say goodbye'

There's a point where it tips,
There's a point where it breaks,
There's a point where it bends
And a point we just can't take
Anymore.

There's a line that we'll cross
And there's no return,
There's a time and a place,
No bridges left to burn
Anymore!

We can't just wait,
With lives at stake
Until they think
We're ready.

Our enemies are gathering
The storm is growing deadly.

Now it's time to say goodbye
To the things we loved
And the innocence of youth
How the time seemed to fly
From our carefree lives
And the solitude and peace
We always knew!

There's a day when we'll fight
And we're not gonna fall
There's a day when we'll stand
And a day when we won't crawl
Anymore

We can't just cling to childish things
As evil just grows closer,
Humanity's in jeopardy
This fight is far from over!

Now it's time to say goodbye,
To the things we loved
And the innocence of youth.
With a doubt in our minds
Why we chose this life
And at times we can't help wondering . . .

Were we born to fight and die?
Sacrifice for one huge lie.
Are we heroes keeping peace
Or are we weapons,
Pointed at the enemy
So someone else can claim a victory?

Now it's time to say goodbye
To the things we loved
And the innocence of youth
How the time seemed to fly
From our carefree lives
And the solitude and peace
We always knew!

Now, if 'This will be the day' Could span over three seasons, I'm pretty sure 'Time to say goodbye' can as well.

Firstly, the entire first para seems almost in reference to

I mean . . . Sorry, but it just. Fits, so perfectly. First Penny, then Prryha and remember, Ruby's only sixteen and she hasn't exactly shown us a very mature side so far. mostly, we've only seen her 'natural born leader' side so far with a few hints and smiles from Yang.

Also. Forget the silver eyes reference. Anyone noticed that when Amber gets all glowy, she has a mask that kind of... you know. Glows? Like a masquerade mask? Welll.... In the picture above, Ruby has it. And it's white. What if she's the winter maiden? Also, I'd like to say confirmed coz in season 4 episode 7, Qrow says to Ruby "What's your favorite fairy tale?"

Now, back to the point. We only ever get to listen till "And the solitude and peace we ever knew"

Talk about foreshadowing for season three ~

Anyways, during season 2, is when we see team RWBY 'growing up'. What I mean by that is, that they're fighting Grimm, some more Grimm and oops. They got into the town. Oh well. Ah and before i forget, we had the dance too this season.

Which basically means, they had school, the year ended, they had a dance, dangerous field trip that didn't exactly end well...

Now, if you think about it, team RWBY could only 'just about' handle everything that was thrown at them. Between finding themselves, getting over some of their fears, facing a horde of Grimm and so on, we find that they were kind of 'saved' each time.

Now onto the parts of the song that we didn't get to hear. The entire second half of the song is telling us that if 'they' don't grow up, we're all going to be in trouble. But mostly, i think it's that Ruby needs to be less naive. I'm just saying! Now, for the lines that have been bothering me the most since season 4 began.

"There's a day when we'll that we're not gonna crawl"

Season 3 was as if all the good in the world was taken and destroyed. Our adorable Penny, the light, maybe even the representation of innocence in the RWBY universe, dies. Prryha, who we thought was gonna save the day too, died. Then Yang, the bright bubbly cheerful no nonsense girl who cracked all the jokes lost an arm and is facing trauma.

Season 4 comprises of every person in team RWBY getting battering physically (Ruby. Don't think I didn't notice Rooster Teeth) or getting battered emotionally (the freaking out Blake and Weiss who's currently trapped in several ways and oh! did i forget the YANG LOST HER ARM?!?!).

The 'awesomeness' of their moves and their beating up the bad guys is overshadowed by their horrendous performances in season 4. I mean, Blake and Sun required a ship to finish off their... dragon grimm? and Ruby keeps getting bashed - trees, rocks, buildings... Nora has stopped jumping around and not giving a damn. Nora feels strange. Jaune... i don't even want to go there. sigh. Prryha! Ahem. That scene is just so... the feels...

Oh and lastly, Ren. We finally get to know a little bit more about his past. He's going to be the next to die people. Did anyone notice how when prryha opened up, a few episodes later she died? Well... I think Ren's next in line. Along with Qrow. I'm pretty damn sure he got poisoned.

So, i think that covers all the nastiness the song was pointing to, no?

And then as if ALL of that wasn't enough as foreshadowing. Season three's opening song: When it falls.

Maybe red's like roses?
Maybe it's the pool of blood
The innocents will lay in
When in the end you've failed to save them?
Their dying eyes
Are wide and white like snow
And now they know
The cost of trusting you's obliteration

Mirrors will shatter
Crushed by the weight of the world
The pillars collapse in shame

There'll be no rest
There'll be no love
There'll be no hero in the end
Who will rise above
And when it ends
The good will crawl
The shining light will sink in darkness
Victory for hate incarnate
Misery and pain for all
When it falls

Swallowed by the darkness
Soon the moon is bathed in black
The light of hope is taken
And discontent is the contagion

The blinding eyes
That burn a yellow flame
The embers that remain
Will light the fuse of condemnation

Kingdoms in tatters
Hung on the brink of a war
The peace will succumb to flames

This is not a tragedy
It's not an accident
You placed your faith in fools
And now you'll smother in lament

They play the part of allies
Claiming peace their only goal
But once the fight for power starts
They'll eat each other whole

Their iron gloves point fingers
They'll wage a war of blame
And mankind will wilt in pain

There'll be no rest
There'll be no love
There'll be no hero in the end
Who will rise above
And when it ends
The good will crawl
The shining light will sink in darkness
Victory for hate incarnate
Misery and pain for all
When it falls

I think, nothing needs be said about this. Count all the dead bodies, the people (Blake) who ran, Yang's condition, Weiss is trapped in a place she doesn't want to be, Ruby's set off on a journey that I'm pretty sure is going to lead to team JNPR's demise. Just saying.

And yes, currently the bad guys certainly look like they're winning. Between Amber and she who must not be named, and team RNJR continually getting beaten up and sigh. I dunno guys. Season 5 looks bleak. And i'm saying that AFTER everything that's happened so far. So, let's hope for something brighter in season 4 song?

Season 4 opening song: Let's just live

It used to feel like a fairy tale
now it seems we were just pretending
we’d fix our world
then on our way to a happy ending
then it turned out life
was far less like a bedtime story
than a tragedy
with no big reveal of the hero’s glory
and it seems we weren’t prepared
for a game that wasn’t fair
do we just go home?
can we follow through?
when all hope is gone
there is one thing we can do
let’s just live
day by day and not be conquered by our sorrows
the past can’t hold us down
we must break free
inside we’re torn apart
but time will mend our hearts
move onward not there yet
so let’s just live

I somehow... have a bad feeling about the next season. Soooooo.... there may not be a happy ending? I don't like that thought. But I guess, when team RWBY and JNPR are the way they are... with everyone all sad and depressed and everything... sigh. So everyone, hopefully, season 5, we'll see Yang an able warrior, Weiss as well mistress of her summons (i don't mind if she's not, I wouldn't have minded seeing that lady getting beaten up...) and Blake finally not being 'jittery'. I have lost hope for Ruby. I'm sorry. I mean, she's been thrown around way too much for me to be all "GO RUBY!!! YOU CAN DO THIS"

Now i'm more like.at the edge of my seat. "Don't hurt Ruby Don't hurt Ruby Don't hurt Ruby! Oh God no! Ruby! NOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

I'll leave you all with these bleak thoughts. See you next at season 5 everyone :)

Poetry and Passion part 2

Because part 1 wasn't long enough lol.

Right, so onwards! To more poetry . . . and then some more. . . i feel like this blog is never going to end 0.0

In any case, after the Nazi, Jew, you know, we were asked to look at another holocaust and write a poem on that. So, i looked at the Indian partition and . . . I mean, when you read some of the things that happened, you're just, horrified. i mean, i would never have thought - ahem. please do your own research at your own risk.

I wrote a poem in any case, though it doesn't entirely follow the facts that we know, I felt that this was kind of my way of approaching it, of what i felt went on, so here we go.

1947

Bhago unhone bola.
Bhago.

Our friends yesterday,
burned our houses down today.

Kya hua?
Saval tak pahuncha nahi.

We were told
by our own family.
Your life, give up your life
to save our honor.

Hamari zindagi
Apni tak nahi.

Yesterday,
The grass was green,
soft,
held our feet,
cradled it.
The grass didn’t change.
Our fear of it did.
The grass reached up for us
And we struggled away from it.

We were dolls.
Marked with symbols,
Our new brand.

We were broken,
Cut up,
Torn apart,
To leave a mark on our honor.

The choice didn’t change.
Both were worse,
One prolonged,
The other painful.

Hamari zindagi,
Apni tak –
Hamara kya?
Aur bhi kuch tha.

Friends became enemies,
Identities now questioned.
Bullets shot to kill.
Not our enemies.
But our friends.

Ankhe bandh rakho.
Kuch bhi mat dekhna.

Walk and walk,
People ahead,
People behind.
Or were they bones ahead
And behind?
Above and underneath?

Hum kyu ja rahein hein?
Kisi ne rekha dal rakha hein.

This line changed our lives,
our deaths . . .
No one to mourn us,
No final rites.
Dead ahead and behind.
Families torn apart.

Hum khilone the kya?

So i tried experimenting with language a little, which is why there is a shift from Hindi to English and vice versa. But, I still feel like i couldn't capture the image i wanted to. But at the very least, I'm hoping that reading the poem would make some people look up some of the horrors of the partition, which was more my goal than actually describing the horrors.

But admittedly, capturing the helplessness and hopelessness was hard. So, I'm currently reading up on the Burma Death Railway and  . . . we'll see.

So after this, we were asked to try capturing an image via sound. in a way that people could visualize it . . I don't know how much sense I'm making. But yes, that was the general idea and, after all the horror and death and everything, it was a very welcome change.

Here are a few that i wrote.

The rustling of leaves
as wind blows through,
The soft sigh of trees
as they watch our stupidity.

The calm wind blows,
creating vacuums in my ears
and rustling my hair
As if greeting
a long lost friend.

The farting sound
of motorbikes,
begging for attention
and release.

The squeaks and squeals
of brakes
desperately trying
to stop.

The quiet purr of a car,
as it tries to
sneak through undetected.

Padded feet find their way,
On leaves that bear weight
But do not crumple.

Then, I reworked some of them, here are the ones that actually sound half decent.

Droopy trees, relaxed trees,
Swaying and playing,
sigh in annoyance,
but nonetheless straighten up.
For the weary, hapless traveller passing by.
Murmurs of frustration,
yet the trees wait with infinite patience.

Tears in my eyes,
A vacuum finds my ears.
Whilst rustling my hair,
A long lost friend greets me.
I swing an arm out,
Skirts swishing,
Tears now laughs
And embrace the wind.

Another short exercise, was writing a poem after hearing a prompt in 30 seconds. It's fun, in it's own way. I only wish i could write as fast as i type.

So, prompt 1: Windowpanes.

The window pane separates.
The outside from the inside,
the world from my room.
people shout, people call,
they laugh and shout,
lips always curled upwards
even if the smile is a lie.

My room though, is silent.
Lips downturned
or curled upwards
during rare occasions.
With a patter comes the rain,
no clouds announcing it's arrival.

Prompt 2: Watermelon Seeds.

Crunchy and cool,
Juices trickle down my throat,
Parched and dry,
I swallow loudly
As teeth nip at my neck.

Shivering and shuddering
Hot and cold at the same time,
Another juicy bite
And a tongue
Trails wet marks towards my chin.

The scrape of teeth
near the corner of my mouth,
Picking the seed
That lonely watermelon seed
that was, for a short while
my beauty spot
And spitting it away before
soft, fluffy hair
tickles me.

My hands wet,
dripping with sweet nectar,
his tongue lazily follows a path,
before sinking his teeth
in juicy red.

Not a moment later,
those tinted lips,
reach for mine.

Ahem. Admittedly, this one was hard. And whenever i find something a weee bit too hard, it tends to... go off into... well... erotica. Or something of the sort. Horror is generally calculated. Erotica though....

Anyways ~ prompt 3: Ladder.

So many ladders,
All set at a tilt,
45 degrees, no more, no less.

They create a small passage,
Step through enough
And they'll whisk you away,
To another land, another time!

And that's all the prompts i've giving you because the rest are . . . well . .  sad.

Yay. So um, i've got more really REALLY long poems, so i'll be putting them up in blogs of their own ^^

And, as a treat, if i can figure out this embedding sound files thingy, you guys can listen to me recite my poetry ~

Poetry and Passion

This was my first official class of the year! It's pretty exciting and also kind of daunting because i've been trying to find some time to write poetry, but it never really happened, so . . .

In any case, i've found assignments if set as target or challenges enables me to actually do something rather than just sit around and well . . . do nothing.

The first kind of 'style' (i guess?) we were introduced to, was acrostic poetry? poems? So, what is this 'acrostic'? Well, in really simple terms, it means that you write poems by using the letters of your name - so, each sentence begins with a letter of your name.

I tried with my first name, and this is what i came up with:

And the world has ended,
Now darkness will reign supreme.
Justice forgotten, left to rot.
Allies no more, only enemies
Left in a world that has nothing.
I have been left with the devil.

Even

“Angel” he says, “My angel”
Never though, was I yours,
Just as your touch will never wake me.
“Angel” he calls once more.
“Live” I would say, if I could.
I after all, am just the corpse that you love.

Then i gave it a go with my surname.

“Shinigami” a small voice calls.
“Hear my plea” it cries.
In the darkness they resound,
Burning through the night with hate.
Ugly wounds dot his tormented breast.

Then,

Shout in desperation,
Hear your cries mingle with theirs.
In this world that damns,
Beauty, now becomes a poison.
Until you wake, let this be your prison.

Of course, none of these were really mind blowing and it was kind of hard coming up with a theme, so i guess i just kind of made do. No really, i wasn't too convinced by my own poems. They were just eh.

After this short but brief exercise, we were given some poems to read. They were:

Poet, lover, birdwatcher by Nizzim Ezekiel

Colour problems in the family by um. Okay i forgot the poet's name.

An introduction by Kamala Das

Daddy by Sylvia Plath

And one more that i can't remember now - it had something to do with convent schools?

They're in a way, confessional poetry. Where, you kind of confess about well, things you want people to know about i guess or things people want to know about . . . ? So, this was my first attempt. It's kind of nice, but somehow i feel it stills lacks something.

Flower petals fall
Like a gentle shower of snow
Creating patterns in the air,
They fall.
Seasons change,
From the lovers it now goes to leaves
I do not change,
But I watch.
Quietly, the leaves fall
Hardly daring to make a sound,
Despite being crushed underfoot.
I watch.
The rains come now,
Washing away the aches
Of unrequited love.
Along with love,
The leaves too disappear.
I do not change,
I watch.
I watch lovers find happiness
And hide in the rains
With a bouquet of flowers.
The rains crush the flowers
Crushing petals raised with such care,
Those petals I tended to,
Raised with smiles and laughs,
Raised with echoes of snow,
Tinged with melancholy,
But somehow warm.
I watch.
I say nothing,
I do nothing.
I simply watch.
Through the rains,
Comes a ray of light,
Like a beautiful blade.
Perhaps my salvation,
Perhaps not.
The world goes on,
They do not see,
They do not love,
And I watch.
I watch.
Blade in hand now,
Flowers replaced,
I watch the light shine
In all its resplendent glory.
Somehow, the world turns red,
Like rubies or perhaps
Like a blushing maiden.
It flows from me,
Thick and sluggish.
The world seems redder,
More vibrant,
And I watch.
I watch as blood flows,
I watch as the blade falls.
I watch as the world
Reaches its most beautiful,
With red snow falling.

I do not watch now,
But I know,
I know the petals are scattered,
But they will remain pure,
Stained by my red,
Never will they be crushed underfoot.

I mean, i love it, in it's own way . . . but still, it really feels like it's missing something. And no, i am not going to tell you any details about what i'm saying through the poem. After this, we tried to make 15 word poems where one word is repeated 3 times.

This was a little hard because not too much made sense . . . So here we go:

Soft like velvet,
I wonder,
If they'll feel the same
Velvety soft,
Like velvet petals.

This was my favorite:

Crack, Here comes thunder,
With the crack
Comes lightning
With another crack,
Comes my lover.

Then, same exercise, but this time, we had to try doing it with 30 words. And i couldn't stick to the word limit, since we were asked to try writing just whatever we wanted and cut things out . . . So, first attempt.

Run, run,
Here comes the red car,
Run, run,
It's coming for you
Run,
Breath doesn't matter,
Oxygen is unimportant.
Run
Or it'll get you!
Run
It's coming!
Don't stop!
It's here, it's here!
Get out of the way
Run, run,
Before it hits you!
Run,
Before it's too late.

My second attempt,

Run little girl, run.
Run as fast as you can,
Fleet footed,
Dodging leaves,
Run fast as you can.
Run from lies,
Run from the darkness,
Run from fear,
            From everything you fear.
Wind like blades,
Cut you down,
Still you run.
Leave slike daggers,
Tearing into you,
Yet you run.
Run little girl, run.
Fast as you can,
Still, darkness overtakes.

Now, after this, we were asked to watch a nice short (sarcasm) on the holocaust, you know, the one where 5 million jews and 4 million other people were killed? Yes, that one. The concentration camps and so on. Hitler's time.

AND, after watching. Well, 'things' i couldn't believe, heard things that i would like to swear were completely untrue, we were asked to write poetry on this. That was. Hard. Just plain old hard. Just. Nothing felt like you were enabling people to understand what was going on . . . how horrible it could have been. Just. Anyway. This was my attempt.

Their tongues silent,
No longer Wagging.
Soft, loud, husky, cracked,
Voices no longer heard.

Yet they haunt.
No presence, No soul.
Like broken dolls,
They rise.

Apparitions of the living,
They bring out truths
We wished to hear,
But not see.

Bodies without heads,
heads without eyes.
Half decayed,
Truths of a lie buried.

Plucked from the day,
They knew only of night
Of fear, of desperation.
Of isolation despite being surrounded.

Children no longer innocent,
Hear cries and pleas,
Night after night,
Night after night.

The dead wish for death,
The apparitions wished for death,
And she came,
Hesitant, quiet.

Death herself cowed,
Her domain found,
Pleasure found,
Yet drowned.

"Work is freedom"
She said.
How else, could she help?

Mutilation, amputation.
All normal, everyday.
Fate abandoned,
To cruelty instead.

Death roamed,
Quiet, silent.
Night after night,
Night after night.

She called their names,
Led them by hand
Somewhere warmer,
Safer.
Night after night,
Night after night.

Daggers in the night
swallowed by fog.
Death whispered prayers
When no living soul would,
Cried in despair,
Night after night,
Night after night.

Death became light
To those swallowed by darkness.
It chewed and spat out
Empty shells that longed.

Night after night,
Night after night.

So, I mean, to me, though in the documentary, they said that the prisoners held on to some form of hope, to me it felt like that hope was death - the most clear way out and the reason it felt that way was because they said many died from typhoid if i remember right. And I kind of decided to portray death not as some sort of cruel monster, but instead as the last person you would expect to show kindness.

In any case, many more things coming up, so I'll write a part 2 to this... hope you all look forward to it :)
